UNP Municipal Councillors arrested over alleged theft of 3-ton machine

Two United National Party members of the Kolonnawa Municipal Council have surrendered to the Wellampitiya Police over the alleged theft and sale of a dilapidated iron machine, which is property of the Kolonnawa Municipal Council.

The machine, weighing approximately 3 tons, was located at the old paddy storage complex in Meethotamulla, the premises upon which a COVID19 care center is currently being constructed.

The arrested persons are aged 50 and 52 & are due to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court today (16).

Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the two persons who had purchased and transported the machine have been arrested and remanded.
