Sri Lanka stocks slide 2.05-pct

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka stocks fell for the third consecutive day ending down 2.05 per cent on continued selling pressure, brokers said.

Turnover was 2.4 billion rupees with 25 stocks gaining and 125 falling.

Sri Lanka stocks have been volatile in February after steep gains in January.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index fell 150.29 points to close at 7,193.09.

The market opened at 7,343 but continued to slip throughout the day to reach an intraday lowest of 7,148 by noon.

The S&P SL20 index of more liquid stocks fell 2.51 per cent or 73.02 points to close at 2,836.75.

LOLC Holdings fell 19.25 rupees to close at 330.00 rupees contributing most for the ASPI fall.

LOLC Finance, fell 10 cents to close at 6.20 rupees, Browns and Company fell 13.00 rupees to close at 155.00 rupees and Browns Investment closed 10 cents down at 5.50 rupees.

Vallibel One fell 2.20 rupees to close at 51.30 rupees.

John Keells Holdings fell 2.25 rupees to close at 151.75 rupees.

Hayleys Plc closed 3.10 rupees down at 54.60 rupees with key subsidiaries Dipped Products falling 3.60 rupees to close at 43.20 rupees and Haycarb Plc falling 6.40 rupees to close at 90.70 rupees.

The Kingsbury Plc closed flat at 11.90 rupees and Singer Industries Ceylon closed 4.50 rupees up at 93.50 rupees.

Distilleries Company fell 10 cents to close at 19.90 rupees, Ceylon Grain Elevators fell 6.25 rupees to close at 118.25 rupees and Hemas Holdings closed 60 cents down at 81.40 rupees.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon closed 1.00 rupee down at 85.80 rupees and Hatton National Bank closed 3.25 rupees down at 126.50 rupees.

DFCC Bank closed 1.80 rupees down at 60.30, Sampath bank closed 3.50 rupees down at 151.00 rupees and Nations trust bank closed 30 cents down at 56.60 rupees.

Seylan Bank closed 70 cents down at 50.40 rupees while Pan Asia Banking Corporation fell 80 cents to close at 16.00 rupees and Housing Development Finance fell 3.60 rupees to close at 33.40 rupees.

Central Finance Company fell 3.80 rupees to close at 85.30 rupees, Alliance Finance Company fell 1.20 rupees to close at 49.30 rupees and Citizens Development Business Finance closed flat at 110.00 rupees.

Expolanka fell 1.30 rupees to close at 44.70 rupees while Melstacorp Holdings closed 2.20 rupees down at 45.60 rupees a share.

Royal Ceramic Lanka closed 19.75 rupees down at 251.00 rupees, Lanka tiles fell 9.25 to close at 186.75 rupees and Lanka Walltiles closed 16.75 rupees down at 190.75 rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company stocks up 22.75 rupees at 1,023.25 rupees, Piramal Glass Ceylon closed 20 cents lower at 9.70 rupees and Ceylon Cold stores closed flat at 640.00 rupees.

In the hotel sector, Eden Hotel Lanka fell 30 cents to 10.40 rupees, Sigiriya Village hotel closed 50 cents down at 31.70 rupees, John Keels Hotels closed 50 cents down at 10.00 while Aitken Spence Hotel holdings fell 1.10 cents to close at 28.80 rupees.

Carson Cumberbatch closed 14.25 rupees up at 289.00 rupees while Access Engineering fell 90 cents to close at 22.50 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed flat at 1,189.00 rupees while Aitken Spence Plc closed 1.10 rupees down at 60.00 rupees.

Sri Lanka Telecom closed 60 cents down at 34.30 rupees while Richard Pieris and Company closed 60 cents down at 16.00 rupees.
