Few public services temporarily halted due to pandemic

Several services at public institutions have been temporarily halted as a result of the country’s outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • The distribution of letters by post office and sub-post office in a number of areas has been stopped until further notice. According to Post Master General Ranjith Ariyaratne, steps have been taken to suspend the distribution of letters in the Western Province, the Galle Head Post Office, and its regulated sub-post offices in a number of areas where curfew has been imposed.
  • Secretary of Sri Lanka Bar Association Rajiv Amarasuriya claimed that regular court proceedings would not take place in areas where curfew is in force.
  • In the meantime, it was agreed to accept applications for payments from the Employee Provident Fund ( EPF) only via the nearest office of the Labor Department.
  • The Department of Government Information indicated that the date and time for the service referred to above may be reserved by telephone with effect from today (25).
