Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) advises people seeking employment in Poland to pay for employment agencies only after confirmation of their employment and consultation with the Bureau.
The SLBFE claimed that the warning decision was taken in response to allegations that certain employment agents legally advertise in newspapers pretending to provide employment in Poland are extorting large amounts of money from prospective employees.
Although the Bureau allows the placement of work orders and job ads in Poland and has not allowed agents to charge job-seekers without a visa and employment agreement.
The Bureau therefore strongly advises job-seekers never to give money to agencies without first securing work permits and work visas.
It is also illegal to charge money in compliance with the laws of the Bureau.
The Bureau informs that all information related to employment in Poland can be obtained by calling the Bureau’s 24 Hour Information Center at 011-2879901 / 011-2879903 / 011-2118700 / 011-2880500, and requests the public to confirm employment before disbursing money.
