🔴 LIVE – Parliament debate on 20th Amendment commences

A short while ago, the two-day debate on the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution began in Parliament.

At the opening of the debate, Justice Minister Ali Sabry announced that the government had made changes to the draft bill, taking public opinion into account.

Despite being given the Supreme Court’s go-ahead, the government has agreed to amend the draft in view of the public’s concerns about the draft constitutional amendment, he stated.

The draft will therefore be amended to limit the Cabinet of Ministers to 30 portfolios with an additional 40 non-Cabinet portfolios, and the Emergency Bills will, among other changes, be limited to cases of national disaster or emergency, Sabry said.
