Validity of expired driving licences extended

Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge has instructed the Department of Motor Traffic to extend the driving license term by three months due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

During the notification of the Extraordinary Gazette, the Motor Traffic Department recommended that all driving licenses should be extended until 31 December.

According to the Gazette Note, Regulation No. 03 of 2020 on Motor Traffic (Temporary Extension of the Validity Period of the Driving License) published in the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2180/26 of 17 June 2020 is hereby amended in paragraph (b) of Regulation 2 to substitute the words ‘to 30 September 2020’ with the words ‘to 31 December 2020’
