Drug don Makandure Madush shot dead at Maligawatta

Drug kingpin Makandure Madush, who gained notoriety for his dealings in narcotics, extortion and murder has been shot dead during a shootout between in Maligawatta- Colombo early this morning.

Madush was shot dead when he was taken to the Maligawatta housing flats escorted by officers attached to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) in order to locate 22 Kg’s of stashed narcotics.

A shootout had then occurred at the scene between a group of drug dealers and the police.

Madush and an officer attached to the CCD officer were shot in the ensuing exchange of fire, resulting in the death of Madush.

Makandure Madush, who had been in the custody of the CID for nearly 1 1/2 years, was handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division on October 16 this year for further investigations.

Makandure Madush, who had been in Dubai for many years, was extradited  to Sri Lanka in May 2019 after an intelligence operation by the CID.
