Cabinet approval has been granted to set up a 100 percent state-owned company which will take on the construction of highways in Sri Lanka.
The company will be established giving prominence to the construction of the Central Expressway, the Kelaniya – Athurugiriya overhead Road & the Ruwanpura Expressway.
The construction of all expressways will be taken over by the company while its existing assets would be leased on a 30-year lease basis in order to gain revenue.
The aim of the company is to operate independently devoid of burdening the Treasury.
