Island-wide Zoos closed until further notice

In view of the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 in the country, all zoological gardens are directed to remain closed until further notice.

The Minister of State for Wildlife Conservation Protection Programs, including Electric Fence and Ditch Construction and Reforestation and Wildlife Resources Development, Wimalaweera Dissanayake, confirmed that he had instructed the Director-General to make the decision.

As a consequence, this measure will be in place from today (17).

In addition, steps have also been taken to restrict the access to national parks.
